Meet the Innkeepers – Mary Will & Wayne Browning
We have lived at Bay View since 1961 and love it. We never tire of the beautiful changes on the water, and spend a lot of time looking out the window, enjoying our home, and our beautiful outdoors. We invite you to come and share the beauty with us.
Our five children grew up here, live in the area, and return regularly. We always welcome children – -especially our grandchildren.
We are active in our church and enjoy family, friends, golf, bridge, music and guests. We feel very blessed.
Bay View is a beautiful and comfortable place to spend your vacation with our pool, porch, dock, library, games, and comfortable home. You can while away hours or days. Our yard slopes gently to the water and small boats can be launched here. We have plenty of room for boat parking.
At the northern end of the peninsula are Assateague National Seashore and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge with a beautiful ocean beach, wild ponies and many varieties of birds. At the southern end are Kiptopeake State Park with a lovely, wide Chesapeake Bay front beach, the town of Cape Charles and the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge. Many events during the Eastern Shore Birding Festival in early October are held at these venues.
The Eastern Shore is a major stopover on the Atlantic Flyway during the spring and fall bird migrations. The spring migration is celebrated with a Weekend of the Islands in April and the fall migration with The Eastern Shore Birding Festival in October. Bay View is about midway between them. Other B&B’s, AirB&B’s, and Home Away’s are available. If you want a hotel there are hotels at Chincoteague, Cape Charles, Exmore and Onley. Go to www.visitesva.com for more information about our area.
There are public boat ramps on almost every waterway on both the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay sides of the peninsula.
Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) in Virginia is located at NASA’s facility at Wallops Island, VA and offers tours and information on launches.
Onancock is a charming waterfront town with shops, restaurants, galleries, established neighborhoods, and the ferry to Tangier Island. Wachapreague is the flounder fishing capital of the world and has waterfront restaurants, fishing charters, shops, and small boats for rent.
There are 1950’s movie theaters showing first run movies on weekends, several antique malls, a Bay Beyond outlet, and many small working galleries featuring the work of local artists and artisans. North Street Playhouse, Eastern Shore’s Own Art Center, and Arts Enter offer live entertainment. Eco-tours of the salt marshes, barrier islands, tributaries, and other ecosystems of the Eastern Shore are available with experienced guides. Brownsville, home of the Virginia Coast Reserve, offers tours.
Golf is available at Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club, which also offers tennis, pickle ball and meals, and at Bay Creek Resort, near Cape Charles, which has both Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer golf courses.
The Accomack County airport is about 12 miles north near the Eastern Shore Community College, the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, and Blue Crab Bay Co. Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital is about 12 miles north in Onley, VA.
